Overview: March 2 - 8, 2026
TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE: We are moving through a time of dramatic and rapid change. In astrology, these changes are symbolized by several significant planetary events, all of which are occurring within a very short period: the Solar Eclipse on February 17, the Saturn-Neptune alignment at the Aries Point on February 20, the Mars-Uranus square on February 27, and the upcoming Total Lunar Eclipse on March 3.
This week's eclipse is the culmination point of the lunar cycle and the climax of our first eclipse season of 2026, and thus we can expect there to be a fair amount of intensity and emotional release. The Full Moon will be exact at 3:37 a.m. PST on Tuesday, March 3, when the Moon is at 12°53´ Virgo, opposite the Sun at the same degree of Pisces. The totality of the eclipse will be visible from Eastern Europe, Asia, Australia, the Indian and Pacific Oceans, North America, most of South America, and the western Atlantic Ocean.
SOUTH NODE ACTIVATION: Tuesday's eclipse occurs when the Moon is close to its own South Node. The shadow side of the sign inhabited by the South Node reveals the attitudes, behaviors, and traits that humanity must release if we are to evolve.
With the Full Moon highlighting the South Node in Virgo, we are being challenged to rise above fault-finding, criticism, and blaming, and instead to cultivate nonjudgment and compassion. If we find ourselves experiencing worry, nervousness, or fear, we are called to surrender the anxiety to a higher aspect of self and to free our minds through meditation and mindfulness.
The South Node in Virgo reveals that in the past, we have based our well-being on our ability to control situations, to plan ahead, and to know what to expect. However, our evolutionary path going forward requires that we have faith, that we trust in positive outcomes, and that we prioritize our spiritual growth.
As we become aware of a tendency to focus too much on the details, we may find that we experience relief when we step back to gain a broader perspective. We will also find benefit in being adaptable, in letting go of the need for immediate resolution, and in remembering that lasting change is at first uncomfortable, disruptive, and often chaotic.
RETROGRADE MERCURY: The planet Mercury is the traditional ruler of Virgo, and thus has a special involvement in the eclipse energies. Since the Messenger Planet stationed retrograde in Pisces on February 25, we could experience a lack of clarity or confusion about events that are occurring now. It is also worth noting that projects that are initiated while Mercury is retrograde often must be revisited and reassessed, and may not have the outcomes expected.
However, Mercury's retrograde status also offers positive potentials at this time, and actually reinforces the core lessons of the eclipse. Mercury retrograde supports following our intuition instead of relying only on logic when seeking solutions. It invites us to spend time in introspection, perhaps writing in a journal or having a quiet conversation with ourselves, as a way to get more in touch with our inner truth and highest knowing.
These themes are reiterated by the asteroid Pallas Athena, which is at 12°19´ Pisces at the time of the eclipse and thus tightly opposite the Virgo Moon. This opposition represents a need to balance using the intellect to discern logical patterns and to find practical solutions with using our intuitive knowing, compassion, and empathy to sense our way through the challenges.
DAILY ASPECTS THIS WEEK (March 2 - 8, 2026):
Here are my brief interpretations of this week's most important aspects, day by day:
Monday
Mars enters Pisces: Mars will be in Pisces for just over five weeks, from March 2 to April 9. During this time, we tend to be less inspired to assert our personal agendas, and are more motivated by spiritual or emotional needs. Mars in Pisces dislikes confrontation and is guided by compassion in its dealings with others. The shadow qualities of Mars in Pisces include avoidance, passive-aggressive behaviors, being overly adaptable, and a lack of clarity about our own desires.
Mars sesquiquadrate Jupiter: We may feel especially emotional today as Mars aspects Jupiter in Cancer. This influence can manifest as impulsive behaviors, so be sure to take your time and ground yourself before taking action.
Tuesday
Total Lunar Eclipse/Full Moon: The Full Moon perfects at 3:37 a.m. PST, when the Moon is at 12°53´ Virgo and the Sun is at the same degree of Pisces. The totality of the eclipse peaks at 3:33 a.m. PST.
Mars square Sedna: Anger that has been brewing beneath the surface seeks release. People could feel frustrated about their inability to effect change, and thus might be reactive.
Wednesday
Retrograde Mercury semisquare Pluto: The mind is strategic but also somewhat suspicious now. We may not trust that we are being told the truth.
Venus sextile Uranus: This social aspect supports creating new relationships and alliances. We might be drawn to people who are outside our usual circle of acquaintances, or to participate in social activism with a group of like-minded others.
Thursday
Sun trine Jupiter: We might feel pleasingly sentimental and be drawn to connect with family under this influence. This aspect also supports expanding our spiritual practice and feeling a stronger connection with our inner light.
Friday
Venus enters Aries: Venus will be in Aries from March 6 to 30. During these three weeks, people can be more direct and courageous in expressing love and are often eager to form new relationships. This can be a good time to begin an artistic endeavor, especially one that feels new and exciting. The shadow side of Venus in Aries is a need to keep moving and having new experiences, which can interfere with long-term stability.
Saturday
Sun conjunct retrograde Mercury: This alignment encourages us to go within, to review, and to reassess our plans going forward.
Venus conjunct Neptune: Venus is activating the Saturn-Neptune alignment throughout this weekend, being exactly conjunct Neptune on Saturday and conjunct Saturn on Sunday. At this time, we might feel disillusioned and also face a reality check in alliances, relationships, or financial matters. Issues that have been hidden from view now come to the surface.
Sunday
Venus conjunct Saturn: (see Saturday's aspects)
Retrograde Mercury trine Jupiter: This can be a good day for conversations, especially those that involve spiritual or ethical concerns. Since Mercury is retrograde, this can be considered an opportunity to review our beliefs and ideals rather than coming to concrete conclusions.

If Your Birthday Is This Week (March 2 - 8):
The planets support you in your process of self-exploration and spiritual understanding this year. Writing in a journal, penning a novel, or just jotting down ideas as they come to you can be valuable. Your intuitive abilities are enhanced, and you may benefit from techniques such as guided imagery and dream interpretation. You might be drawn to film or photography or other visual arts that use the imagination. Compassion and empathy could inspire you to take action in support of those in need. (Solar Return Sun conjunct retrograde Mercury, trine Jupiter, conjunct Pallas Athena)
